The Architectural Design Firm of Dean Robert Camlin & Associates

dean camlin expertise

Dean Robert Camlin & Associates, Inc. is an architectural design firm founded in 1977 by Melvin Arbaugh. The company was born of Melvin’s desire to use his architectural skills and knowledge in a way that would provide value to the community and was able to accomplish this goal by offering design services for new construction, renovations, and restorations of both residential and commercial properties. A few years after the firm’s establishment, Mr. Arbaugh made a valuable addition to his team.

A graduate of Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design, Dean Camlin joined the architectural firm as a project management intern in 1982. For the next four years, Dean worked under the direction of Mr. Arbaugh and grew his technical knowledge and hands-on experience in all aspects of architectural building design and construction review.

This helped provide Mr. Camlin with the qualifications needed to take the Architect Registration Exam in 1986. He passed the exam on the first attempt, and by 1991, less than 10 years after he began as an intern at the company, he purchased the design firm from Mr. Arbaugh. Today, the firm continues to design high-quality buildings for clients in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia and D.C.

Passion for Architecture is in Our Blood

Dean Camlin had been around architectural drafting and design since he was young. With persistence, dedication, and a drive to accomplish great things, he became the architect he dreamt he’d be when he was in school:

“My grandfather, Robert C. Camlin, was an architectural draftsman for the Pennsylvania Railroad. One of his great regrets was that he never became licensed as an architect. I recall poring over his blueprints when I would visit as a child, and intuitively understanding the passenger terminals and other buildings they described. Thus in sixth grade, I decided I wanted to become an architect, and in 1977 graduated from Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design. I use my middle name in the business name in homage to my grandfather’s legacy and inspiration.”

“My wife Mary and I first met Dean Camlin some 20 years ago when we were searching for an architect that could make Mary’s lifelong dream a reality by creating the perfect environment for preschool children to thrive and flourish. He listened carefully to her concepts and then applied his considerable skills to create Little Peoples Place into a facility that has proven to meet all of her expectations. Literally, thousands of children have been introduced to the concept of learning while having fun in the building Dean designed.

“We have done a number of smaller projects since then and have always found Dean very easy to communicate with. He explains architectural issues in ways that can be understood by those not in the field. His integrity is beyond reproach and his many years of experience are invaluable when you need to get a problem solved or a job done. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of an architect.”
