THE ARCHITECTURAL FIRM OF

Dean Robert Camlin & Associates, Inc.

Founded in 1977 by Melvin Arbaugh, our firm began with a mission to use architectural expertise to bring value to the community. A few years later, Melvin welcomed Dean Robert Camlin, whose leadership and vision shaped the company’s growth as president. Today, the tradition continues under Kevin Patrick Davis, who carries forward our commitment to design excellence and community service.

Licensed Architect in Maryland and District of Columbia

Mr. Davis is a U.S. Army veteran and holds a Master of Architecture degree from Morgan State University. He is well versed in all phases of commercial and residential design, from project conception through construction, and also has three years prior experience as a construction project manager. Mr. Davis’s design interests lay in passive, net-zero and ultra-energy-efficient building design, environmental conservation, “WELL Building” design standards, aging in place, 3D printed buildings and institutional design with an emphasis on defensible spaces. Mr. Davis also has expert knowledge in the evaluation, design, and construction of onsite wastewater disposal systems, standards and regulations.

Prior to his entrance into the field of architecture, Mr. Davis worked as a farrier, Standardbred racehorse owner, and trainer, and in the forestry industry as a logger and sawmill operator. During his enlistment in the Army, Mr. Davis was a team leader in his infantry battalion’s scout platoon (forward reconnaissance & surveillance) where he earned the rank of Sergeant. He is an Eagle Scout, a resident of Westminster, and enjoys spending time fishing, hiking, and building.

A 1977 graduate of Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design, Dean Camlin joined the architectural firm as a project management intern in 1982. For the next four years, Dean worked under the direction of Mr. Arbaugh and grew his technical knowledge and hands-on experience in all aspects of architectural building design and construction review.

“My grandfather, Robert C. Camlin was an architectural draftsman for the Pennsylvania Railroad. One of his great regrets was that he never became licensed as an architect. I recall poring over his blueprints when I would visit as a child and intuitively understanding the passenger terminals and other buildings they described. Thus, in sixth grade, I decided I wanted to become an architect, and I use my middle name in the business name in homage to my grandfather’s legacy and inspiration.”

This helped provide Mr. Camlin with the qualifications needed to take the Architect Registration Exam in 1986. He passed the exam on the first attempt, and by 1991, less than 10 years after he began as an intern at the company, he purchased the design firm from Mr. Arbaugh. Today, the firm continues to design high-quality buildings for clients in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia and D.C.
